ETA Lovecraftian Shenanigans cowriter just messaged me with this blurb for it (complete with DRAMATIC MOVIE ANNOUNCER VOICE!): In a WORLD where HOT DUDES have TENTACLES, WATCH OUT for NUZZLING RAT-MONSTERS!

Bwahaha. And now I can vent to her about this ableist thing I just read instead of blowing up online or being up half the night sitting on my hands so I won't blow up online.

So it's been almost two years since I regularly updated the monthly project updates, but it is time to start them again, because I get a lot more done when I keep track of my writing in a variety of ways.

This month, I thought I'd kick it off with a fun thing, too. When I’m in traffic, to entertain myself, once in awhile I'll come up with blurbs for my fiction writing projects. (I create them for my nonfiction writing projects, too, but mostly those are confidential, so I can’t really talk about them even if you were interested in legal writing projects.) I even say them aloud in a DRAMATIC MOVIE ANNOUNCER voice, sometimes.

(Sometimes the music is up too loud for that.)

So for this month's project update, I thought I'd include some of the recent blurbs. I recommend giving them your own DRAMATIC MOVIE ANNOUNCER voice.

So what are you working on right now?

This is my second year participating in [livejournal.com profile] jonowrimo. Last year I had great success doing it and I'm thrilled to be involved this year, as well. Especially since I doubt I'll have time for NaNo this year, what with the move and the new job and preparing for the second bar exam and all.

Here are my goals for JoNoWriMo:

1) Finish Monsters & Music draft one (a teen supernatural adventure about werewolves and ghosts; I'm at 60k so far and estimate maybe 10k more)
2) Revise and write Monsters & Music draft two
3) Write, revise, and submit three ~10k short stories under my paranormal romance and erotica pseudonym

I am currently updating my writing To Do list. It is long. Very long. I love it.

---

Also, I'll be heading to San Diego October 1 through October 8. Good times.

I wanted to have Monsters & Music draft one done by this update, but I'm still a few chapters away. Still, it's the middle of the month and I'm trying to do this regularly, so here's the current project list.

So it's been a few months (or seven, WHATEVER), but it's time to start the monthly project updates again. I think doing them in the middle of the month will work best for me, so here's hoping I'll hit the 15th of every month with these.

So I was prepping a story for submission to an anthology, due a few days ago, but with Mom and the bar, I didn't get it done. It's a publisher I'd worked with before, and the editor knew I planned to submit (and had my synopsis already), so I sent a quick email just to give her the heads up that I wouldn't be submitting. She not only offered me an extension, but when I let her know when I thought I could have it done, said I could have more time than that if I needed, just to keep her updated.

I didn't expect that. I have a mental block against asking for extensions. Frequently, I just don't think about it; if the deadline is Day A, I'll get whatever it is done by Day A. I have a hard time asking for help, too. If things need to be done, I find some way to do it.

It was really hard for me to ask for an extension on my finals this semester, when I needed to get to Mom's side to say good-bye just in case. I am trying to be better about asking for help when I need it -- I did ask for the extension, after all -- but my first thought is not to reach out. I think I get this from my father, because I am watching him learn to reach out to the family for help, too.

I'm on my lunch break, so I'd better get some writing done and then get back to bar prep.

Thanks a lot, [livejournal.com profile] janedoevanished. Not for cursing me, but for giving me story ideas. I don't know if I want to write about what it actually says, or just about how people believe, or why human nature is such that, if you say don't do it, you want to do it even more, but. I have a novel to write, not spooky crazy short story ideas.

you remember when I said if I say don't read it, you'll want to read it, right? )
