This is really interesting. For me, the appeal of TLB and especially the Lost Cave was the way everyone shared and encouraged and drove their creativity. The movie itself is fun, ridiculous and cheesy at times, but the characters are left so open to interpretation, both in what they were before the movie (vampires are always so potentially interesting in that way) and what happens after. There's a lot of energy to the story, and a lot of room for fannish creation. Add that to the way the mailing list was so generally positive and filled with creativity and friendship and support, and it was a perfect storm of fandom. Some of the people I am closest with to this day came out of TLB and the Lost Cave; Tracy and I were just talking about this the other day. We've been friends for nearly twenty years, which for me covered my teenage years, my twenties, and into my thirties. Those are times of great change, and friendships that survive it are pretty rare, and definitely wonderful.
I also learned a lot about telling stories from you guys, and all the TLB authors on the list, and I am forever grateful.
