[Publications] Book and TV reviews
Apr. 15th, 2010 09:30 amInternets! I have written things lately! (Actually, I have written a lot of things lately, but these are things you can read for free right now!) I will collect some of them for you here.
Review of Witch Dreams by Vivian Vande Velde at Broad Universe’s Broadsheet. My favorite V3 book is actually Heir Apparent, but I really enjoyed Witch Dreams as well. It’s flawed, and I’m pretty clear about those flaws in the review, but despite that, it captures your attention as you read it.
Excerpt: The beauty of the story is in the descriptions of the dreams themselves, the relationship between Nyssa and her older brother, and Nyssa herself. She’s a selfish child who grows into a driven young woman, and her flaws and strengths combine to make her an interesting character.
(For general reference, I’m reviewing each episode of The Vampire Diaries at Innsmouth Free Press. You can view all the reviews here.)
Here are reviews of the last few episodes of The Vampire Diaries:
+ Everyone Needs a Mystical Ring: Review of The Vampire Diaries 1.15: “A Few Good Men”
+ Here Comes the Badass: Review of The Vampire Diaries: 1.16: “There Goes the Neighborhood”
+ It’s Like a Metaphor or Something. Review of The Vampire Diaries 1.17: “Let the Right One In”
Warning, there are spoilers. (I’m also kind of giddy in that last one, because I have high hopes that something I’ve been waiting for will happen in episode 1.18. Maybe. It airs tonight, so we’ll know soon!) I do frequently find TVD to be ridiculous and cheesy, plus it has issues with women who embrace their sexuality (and frequently with women who are supernaturally powerful), but it is also a lot of fun.
