[livejournal.com profile] sartorias has a really interesting discussion about writing first person: First Person POV. The best discussion is taking place in the comments, I think, with lots of different ways people experience the world. For the first time I'm trying my hand at a first person novel and it is hard. I miss my good old third person a lot. But for this story, I think maybe it works, and I will be taking these different ways people experience the world into consideration as I write.

I really like first person POV. I've used it for three different long stories and I love it every time. It lets you make observations that third person doesn't, so it does have some benefits to replace the additional losses of omniscience with third person.

I'll have to check out the post when I get a break!

I have a lot of issues with first person lately. I think it's because I read a lot of YA and have been reading a lot of paranormal romance-ish stuff and first person POV seems to be de rigeur.
Ironically, everything I write seems to come out as first-person. It's frustrating.
