(Okay, this ended up being an all-Anna post. I thought I had more links saved.)

+ Anna wrote Power and Responsibility at FWD/Forward about homecare workers and who society thinks should carry the burden of care. It's really interesting.

It struck me in part because one of the things I considered when thinking about changing careers was whether I would be able to afford care for my parents, whether at their home, my home, or a facility. I am not the best person to provide that care, and they have their own plans, but I wanted to make sure I could afford to provide what they needed.

+ Anna wrote The Transcontinental Disability Choir: How to make your blog accessible in five not-very-complicated steps at Bitch.

+ Anna wrote Glee: “That’s why we call it dismissing legitimate concerns instead of acting” at FWD/Forward.

Aha, I knew I had a non-Anna post to link.

I've not read Feministing regularly for a long time, though I will occasionally read if directly linked to an article, basically because of the racist, classist, ableist, transphobic content they spew. Please Boycott Feministing talks about some of the issues, Feministing's responses, and why people want a boycott. So if Feministing has been recced to you, here's a different analysis of it.

Okay, I probably need to eat sometime today. Or at the very least, drink more water.

I've been following Anna's Glee posts with interest and some facepalming at myself because of my own ability!fail. Like, I knew Finn and Puck were faking needing to use a wheelchair, but the extent of their fail - and Tina's, for faking her stutter - and what it meant to disabled/differently abled people didn't register with me until I read Anna's posts.

Also interesting in an "oh no" kind of way is how the faily comments mirror the same silencing techniques used in racefail and anti-feminist discussions.

I only occasionally read Feministing, so I haven't really noticed anything that's particularly made me feel the site is perpetuating the things it claims to fight against, but I'll keep it in mind!

Interesting how the person has a home care person that is actually a NURSE. Usually they aren't.

I wonder though about the imbalance of women in that role of usually poorly paid caregiver. The ones who are CNAs, PCAs, HHAs, and of course all the kinds of nurses, are women. The imbalance is mostly at the lower paid end of the scale.

Are we just exploiting other women when it comes to this? This includes daycare. It's something that I think about a lot because of my son.

Thanks for the multiple heads ups.

Glee is a continual source of "Are you serious?" especially as a stutterer myself.

Off to de-blogroll feministing and Jessica Valenti. Pah.

You should check out my friend Liz's blog, Dis/Embody. She talks about disability, and specifically, Glee. http://lizellcessor.org/
