[books] writing inspiration
May. 6th, 2009 07:41 pmI'm reading Pronoia is the Antidote for Paranoia by Rob Brezsny. I'm not really clicking with it, but there are pieces of it I like, fragments of sentences, words strewn together.
I want to be dangerously alive every day.
Pyrokleptomania - the compulsion to steal fire.
Everyone who believes in the devil is the devil.
So even when I don't click with a book, there's something to get out of it, some writing inspiration.

Some people say they have rehearsed extensively by smooching the backs of their own hands or rubbing their lips up against posters of celebrities. Whether you've tried these techniques or have developed other strategies, Aquarius, I advise you to bone up on your skills. Not this week, but soon, you will be entering a prime romantic phase of your astrological cycle -- a time when you will have the potential to accomplish wonders and marvels with your mouth.
Apparently I am going to kiss my way across the Midwest as I head to my summer home. Fabulous.

Date: 2009-05-07 01:24 am (UTC)I want to like it a lot more than I do; there is some nice language to it and some interesting ideas, but a lot of what is said either reads to me as - trying too hard? Maybe? I'm not sure exactly how to phrase it (which is fairly funny, when talking about a book where the language is what is making me not like it and is what I do like at times), but there's something about it that seems just a little too - something. See? No language to explain why.
Part of it might be that some of the things that seem to be presented as these gorgeous fresh ideas are things that me and mine have been doing for years. This may be more a statement to the creativity and depth of my siblings than anything wrong with the book itself.
For that matter, some of the things remind me so much of two of my siblings and that may be why I'm not getting the same joy that I expected out of it.
Maybe I should try it your way and just open it at random points and try to parse it like that.
I'm glad I'm reading it, though, and I'm really glad you seem to enjoy it so much.
