seeksadventure: (horizon to chase)
Michigan is having some unseasonably warm weather right now, and I am joyous. (One of my professors reminded us that normally there is some sort of ice storm for St. Pat's, which is far less joyous.) Not only have we had warmish temperatures (despite the abundance of people in tank tops, shorts, and flip flops, 50s and 60s is not actually warm) and sunshine.

Tonight when I left class, the sun was setting, already gone really, with just a slice of color across the horizon. The sky rose up in this glorious, deep blue-black stretch behind all the buildings and the crescent moon was bright white, like the flash of teeth in a wolf grin. I love the crescent moon, that soft curve and the rest of the moon just a shadow in the darkness, almost hidden but not quite.

Canis Major and Orion were bright for once and my heart filled with joy. (For those who don't know, I have Canis Major tattooed on my right leg, and plan to get Orion at some point in the future.) Too often they are hidden from me while I'm in Michigan, but tonight they shone and guided me away from school, guided me into the darkness and the silence and the peace of home.

Today was pretty rough; Wednesdays are my long days (9 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and the law school is surrounded by frat houses and dorms and bars, so it was very, very loud. Plus there is construction right now that vibrates the entire building. But tonight, escaping into my favorite time of day -- sunset and the rise of darkness and the moon -- Meat Loaf on the stereo and my windows rolled down, I stretched my hand out the window and slid my fingers through the air and I was free.

I can see that horizon and I'm chasing it still.

Then, when I parked my car and headed for my building, hesitating in the shadows to watch the stars, the building lights went off, casting darkness everywhere, and I waited for the howl of the wolf.

(Sadly, no wolf. Happily, the power is on inside the building.)

It is only just 6:30 p.m. and I am ready for bed. Partly because I'm still sick, but partly because it is dark enough to be midnight. I dislike this A LOT.

So I will give you something I enjoy instead. (Mainly, my friends are awesome.)

• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity. (NB: until I get bored.)
• Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

She answered one of the questions she received like this:

5. If the world was devastated by a zombie apocalypse and you had to rebuild the population, who would you choose to repopulate the planet with?

Since we'd need a pool of 5000 survivors willing and able to procreate to even have a halfway shot at doing so, and I'm not one of the willing, I would nobly sacrifice myself to holding back the zombie hordes so that my best friend and her husband could make their way to Haven, the zombie-free zone. I think this would be best accomplished by diving into a pile of zombies from a cliff in slow motion, arms outstretched with a grenade in each fist, accompanied on the soundtrack by stirring and heroic strings.

But I'm willing to hear suggestions.

While requesting that she ask me questions, I said this:

I think I will make your best friend and her husband safe to make it to Haven by driving a motorcycle into the hordes. At some point, it will blow up, but not before I get to cut off a few heads.

All to Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell" of course.

(We are talking about [livejournal.com profile] revena and her husband, if you don't know.)

Needless to say, this went over amazingly well, because all three of us are awesome but also because we love Meat Loaf.

So with all that in mind, I will now answer the questions Karen asked.

Special zombie apocalypse edition!

1. What bladed weapon/s are you using for your beheading rampage?

This is a difficult question. I need something curved that has a handle which can be strapped to my forearm for when I need my hands to work the clutch and throttle but which also has a grip for when I need to be slicing up zombies.

Maybe an altered scythe? I will take suggestions.

2. What style of black leather are you wearing?

As below, I have most of this already. Black leather motorcycle boots (preferably steel toed for better head bashing as necessary) and a black motorcycle jacket with collar that can cover my neck. Probably I'd want to add some black leather chaps, but since this is a suicide mission, maybe not.

3. Under what circumstances do you acquire the motorcycle?

ALREADY HAVE ACQUIRED! Because I am JUST THAT AWESOME. In this case, I acquired it by having an awesome dad who builds trikes and then trades them for motorcycles and then sells the motorcycle to me because he knows I've always wanted a Honda Shadow.

4. Where do we have the montage?

ETA: Wow, I totally missed this one. Huh.

Someplace with cliffs and the ocean and the sun setting into the water. (Also, it would be nice to have a sound system already in place in order for me to blast my sacrificial music.)

5. TELL ME WHAT KIND OF BIKE IT IS, CARLA.

IT IS A SILVER BLACK PHANTOM BIKE!

(Or it is a Honda Shadow, 1100cc, and it is sexy as hell. Comfortable and big, it is a monster of metal and heat and it devours the road.)

So there you go! My awesome zombie apocalypse suicide mission!

There was just a gunshot from somewhere to the east of my apartment building. I believe I may have reached the manic stage I like to call Will Not Survive a Horror Movie because my first thought was to go investigate the noise! It's dark out! And cloudy! And cold! And almost the new moon! I'll be right back!

Most days, I've got a good chance of survival, but some days...some days I am not the final girl.

I'm writing an outline for entertainment law (or, well, my half of it, a friend wrote the first half) but I think I'm going to take a break and go play a computer game. I'm thinking Civ4.

Or maybe I'll go walk in the darkness. I tend to pace under the full moon, not the nearly new, but I've had a strange month, mentally.

Happy hunter moon.

On the way home from school, the full moon was already above the treetops. The sunlight wasn't fully gone, but the sun itself was beyond the horizon. The sky was a faded blue, and the clouds tinted a light purple. They slipped around the moon like smoke during a fire dance.

The main road I use to get to and from school has a section which is absolutely filled with trees and bushes that have, suddenly, turned red. So many trees had gone straight to brown I didn't think we'd get any color, but reds were spilled on either side of the street. Some of the reds were bright, shiny, and others deep, thick, edged in black.

I drove with both windows down and the air was cool and sweet.

---

I am restless tonight. I want to run through the darkness and dance under the stars and clean my house and rebuild my car and write for days and light candles and pour gas on bonfires and spin through the smoke and the night and the magic of the full moon.

This is why bipolar and fictional lycanthropy go together so well. The beast unfurls within my flesh and I would peel away my skin and bones.

I've just seen the most beautiful thing. Right outside my window is this huge tree, and the leaves have all turned red, which is pretty in and of itself. But I looked up from my spot on the floor where I'm creating a small press (don't ask) and the dying sunlight hit it, turning the shadowed side to blood and the light side to the red of an exploding planet. It's beautiful.
